About MTSG

Social Secretaries

Let us introduce ourselves to start off with, we are Chris McAvoy from Eversheds, Haziq Arshad from Halliwells and Charlie Yates from George Davies. Our job is to ensure that you enjoy yourself at all the MTSG social events for this year.

We are aiming to arrange a mix of events throughout the year, most of which will have a "bar" element, but there will always be non-alcoholic alternatives for those attendees who do not drink. The events are an excellent opportunity for you to get to know other Trainee Solicitors from other firms in and around Manchester, and to start "networking" at an early stage in your careers. They are also a great opportunity to let your hair down and have a good time, for next to no money at all!

Hope to see you at the events!
Chris, Haz and Charlie.

Sports

For the boys: One of the sports that we want to get organised is football. If any of you are interested in playing either 5-a-side or 11-a-side then please let us know. Don't worry if you don't know anybody else that wants to play - there will be others who come along on their own and it's a good chance to meet new people. Plus, if you don't know people then you can tackle them harder (fairly of course)!? Depending on the number of people interested there may even be socials organised. Please contact Chris, Haz or Charlie as above.

For the girls: For a number of years now the MTSG girls have regularly played netball together. This year practice sessions and matches will be held at the Velodrome Leisure Centre on a Tuesday evening. The first practice session will be held on Tuesday 16th October 2007 6 7pm, and matches will follow every Tuesday thereafter. Ability really does not matter. It's all about getting to know one another and having a laugh. We also go out on regular nights out so it's not really just about the netball! If you would like to play please get in touch with Joanne Butcher or Jayne Popperwell

FELT

The MTSG Year kicked off on 27th September with the FELT (Firms with Eight or Less Trainees) opening night at Beluga Bar. Sponsored by Sacco Mann the night was a resounding success and set a marker down for what is to follow. We won't have long to wait before we try to better it.

Christmas and Summer Balls

The ball that needs no introduction (other than this one of course) will be coming soon. This is the biggie. Like the Christmas Number 1, Oscars and the Countdown Champion of Champions episode rolled into one! This is what it's all about. Tickets will sell out. You will be annoyed if you don't make it. You know you want it....

We're sure that you have happy memories of the fantastic Gangsters and Molls Summer Ball - we'll endeavour to match and even beat that if at all possible!!

This year the Christmas Ball is on the 6th December at the Palace Hotel. If this wasn't enough, there will be a Summer Ball as well. Damn we are good to you...

Nicole and Caroline are running the ball - ask them what's what via Nicole Sujit-Kumar and Caroline Williams- but don't panic, we'll make sure that you get all of the information in plenty of time. Look forward to seeing you there.

Education

Our Education Secretaries provide a friendly support network for Manchester trainees and students, providing careers advice as well as arranging and attending local events at Universities and schools within the region to portray the legal profession in a positive and exciting light. Trainees are the future of the legal profession so we aim to provide as much support and help as possible to allow them to lead the way in the future and in turn, do us at the MTSG proud!

If you have any education queries or would like further information please email Seema or Richard.

National TSG

As well as representing your views on a regional level, we also work in conjunction with the National Trainee Solicitors Group to keep you updated on policy issues such as the minimum salary and the SRA’s Consultation on work based learning.

As you may have heard, the National TSG will soon be replaced by a new group called the Junior Lawyers’ Division, which will be a section of the Law Society representing law students, trainees and young solicitors. This will not effect Manchester TSG, which will continue to operate as normal.

For more information about the future of the National TSG go to www.tsg.org, or contact your National TSG Representative, Sarah Richards.

Charities

Let me introduce myself... I'm Tina Gandhi and am the Charities Representative. Part of my role entails getting involved with the organisation of the Christmas and Summer Ball where we choose a charity to support at the balls and obtain prizes for the raffle held on the night of the balls. I arrange for the tickets to be printed and ensure that as many of them can be sold as possible!

Other events I will be involved with are the Shelter Quiz night - This is an event which the TSG hold annually and each regional group is asked to host their own quiz night.

As the charities rep my main goal is for MTSG to raise lots of money for charity and for us to have some fun at the same time! Contact Tina here.

Secretaries

The role of the MTSG secretaries is extremely varied and comprises of many different tasks. The secretaries provide assistance to the chair and are the first point of contact for members. We act as coordinators between the members and the committee.

Our duties include: managing the membership, emailing members with details of events, organising committee meetings and taking minutes, and assisting other committee members with their organisation of events.
